Protecting the Privacy of Seniors

The Volen Center
respects every senior’s right to privacy and has always maintained
strict confidentiality regarding medical information that seniors
choose to share with the staff of the Center.
In addition, the Center, its staff, and the Center’s many business
associates follow the privacy practices set out under the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, which is known
as HIPAA, and any subsequent revisions and additions. HIPAA was
designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the health
care system by ensuring the adoption of national standards for
securely recording and transferring individually identifiable health
care information in electronic formats. HIPAA permits organizations
like the Volen Center
to obtain and use protected health information for specified
purposes and recognizes the right of individuals to revoke their
permission to use such information under specific circumstances.
Contact Person: The Center’s contact person for all issues regarding
patient privacy and a senior’s rights under the Federal privacy
standards is the Privacy Officer. Information regarding matters
covered by these standards can be requested by contacting the
Privacy Officer. Complaints can be mailed to the Privacy Officer in
