Many seniors require services but cannot
afford them, do not have insurance, or cannot
qualify for support from public programs, in order to receive support that is
sufficient to meet their needs. In addition to accepting general donations,
Volen offers two special funds that
help ensure that EVERY senior can have access to the best of care.
Adult
Day Care Scholarship Fund
Adult day care
is critical to caring for a senior with advancing Alzheimer’s Disease or
another form of dementia. Adult day care services also provide needed relief
for caregivers, enabling them to work and enjoy a more normal family and
social life. If you would like to donate to the Adult Day Care Scholarship
Fund which provides scholarships for adult day care services at the
Volen Senior Center, click the link
below for more information.

Private Care and Bridge Program Scholarships
Some seniors need services but cannot leave
their homes due to illness, physical impairment, or a variety of other
reasons. Others have limited resources to deal with the onset of cognitive
disorders but require transitional support such as that offered by the
Center’s Garden Bridge Program. Many have too
much income to qualify for support through a state or federally funded
program, but still have no resources for additional support. Others have needs
that are so complex that without having a professional
dedicated
to acting and speaking on their behalf, they are unlikely to receive needed
care.

Having access to private care, including a
private geriatric care manager and the Garden Bridge Program, can make the
difference between a senior living the highest quality of life possible and
being forced prematurely into an institution. If you would like help provide
scholarships for these services provided through the
Volen Senior Center, click the link
below for more information.

Recognizing Seniors, Caregivers, and Worthy Organizations
The
Walkway for Independence
As children, our parents and grandparents
guided our footsteps. How far would any of us have come without that support
and their willingness to let us live independent lives? Each brick in
Volen’s Walkway for Independence is a
symbol of that continuation – an elegant, covered walkway that enables
Volen Senior Center participants to enjoy our blossoming inner
garden, rain or shine. One of the Walkway’s bricks can be inscribe with a
personal message from you that will last into the next generations. For as
little as $100 you can permanently commemorate a major event in
your loved
one’s life, such as becoming a parent or grandparent, or simply acknowledge
your love. You can recognize the support you or a senior received for a
wonderful caregiver.
The Tree of Life
Friends and family can celebrate the life of a
loved one who is still with them or honor the memory of a loved one by adding
a leaf or butterfly to one of the Volen Senior
Center Tree of Life. They are prominently displayed in the main
lobby of each building and are focal points for visitors. For as little as
$150, you can create this lasting memorial.

Corporate Friends
Businesses throughout Southern Florida
recognize that the Volen Senior Center
provides critical support to people who work in our community and in South
Florida as a whole. Taking care of employees who are taking care of their
elderly relatives and who are planning ahead for their own retirement is good
business for two reasons:
-
Employees who are faced with the need to care
for their parents or another elderly loved one are also faced with making
decisions about how to meet their obligations at work as well as in their
homes. Caregivers who receive the
support provided by the Center work with less stress and greater freedom.
-
Employees need to make educated choices
about retirement planning and to understand the support available to them as
seniors in the community. Some employees may choose to work after the
traditional retirement age. Others may have no choice – they may have to
work. Volen can provide employees
and
employers
with information that will assist in decision making about retirement and
work after retirement.
Companies large and small sponsor
Volen
events and donate to Center to provide general support and support for other
programs. In return for their donations and sponsorships and depending on the
size of their donation or sponsorship, corporations may be recognized in the
Center’s publications, might be listed as a corporate sponsor on this website,
or receive other benefits.
